With such a vast diversity of climates and geography, Chile can turn its hand to just about any grape variety. The Maipo Valley, just to the north of the capital city Santiago and reaching into the foothills of the Andes Mountains, is the source of the country's best Cabernet Sauvignons. Further south in the Rapel Valley, Merlot and Carmenere are the stars. In the coastal regions of Casablanca and Leyda and down in the south in Bio Bio, Pinot Noir is getting some exciting results.
