A little bit about the iconic wine
Chateau Musar is famous for producing red wines that hold a distinctly unique flavour. With a blend of Cinsault and Cabernet Sauvignon, often combined with a little Carignan and Syrah as well as Mourvedre and Merlot, the wines are aged in oak barrels and released late so that you get a wine already at its best.
Each bottle comes with the characteristic Chateau Musar notes of red cherries, heated spice and pepper accompanied by punchy tannins and a smooth, leathery depth. Gamey notes and musky nuances are also there to be enjoyed as the red is allowed to fulfil its superb aging potential.
You & Musar
You don’t have to be a wine expert to try Chateau Musar. We would encourage you to start off with the easy drinking Chateau Musar Jeune wines. Jeune meaning young is the least expensive and most approachable of the Musar range.
If you’re ready to move on to some distinctive reds then you’ve come to the right place. We stock over 40 different Musar wines and if there’s a vintage you don’t see on the site, we’re pretty confident we will be able to source it for you.
Affordable luxury
If you are looking for a quality Chateau Musar to bring out at a special meal or occasion, we have a great selection of bottles from the 1990s and 2000s.
Corks Out would highly recommend that you try:
1990-1999 vintages - the 1996 is wonderfully warm and commanding, with a combination of sweet fruits, herbs and spices - highly complex and delicious. The 1997 is also well-known for its quality, and has a definite savoury aroma with a powerfully firm and tannic palate.
2000-2007 vintages - these Chateau Musar wines typically come with a lighter body than the older vintages, while still being powerfully rich and well-structured. We would recommend the 2005 and 2003 for fruitiness and smoky spiciness, while the 2000 vintage is truly special with impressive notes of black fruits, toasted bread, dark chocolate and fresh tea leaves.
With Chateau Musar reds from the 1990s and particularly the 2000s, you can choose to store the bottles so that the wines are able to further release their aging qualities.
