Producer Profile
Led by Roberto Carranca, the young and dynamic winemaking team at Indomita skillfully craft wines from their great vineyard holdings in two of Chile’s very best regions. The cooler climate Casablanca is great for Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while the warmer Maipo Valley offers classic Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere. Indomita produce superb, expressive wines that are both beautiful and stunning value for money. Nostros offers both Reserva and Gran Reserva levels of wine from premium growing regions with real typicity and varietal expression.
Vintage Report
After a long, slow harvest that stretched well into May, Chile is increasingly optimistic about its 2011 wines. A small crop ripened steadily and evenly during a markedly cool growing season in most of Chile’s major wine regions. An excellent year for freshness and elegance.
Viticulture
Grown in Chile's Casablanca Valley, the climate in this valley can be described as cool Mediterranean. Its closeness to the ocean tempers its climate and winters tend to be mild. The vineyards are planted on the flatter plains and on the gentle slopes of the Casa Blanca valley. Generally, the soil is of relatively poor quality with low fertility, and therefore good for growing wine grapes.
Winemaking
This fruit was hand harvested in little “gamelas” of 20-25 kg and then hand sorted in the winery. Only the free run juice is used for Duette Chardonnay. Fermentation takes place in small oak barrels (228 liters) in the winery, where the temperature and the humidity are naturally regulated. The wine was aged ‘sur lie’ for 6 months before a final 10 months in French oak barrels. Only 5% of the wine has undergone malolactic fermentation.
