About The Chateau Musar 2002 Vintage

Deep crimson and almost blood red in colour, the 2002 Chateau Musar has a complex aroma containing spicy red and black berry fruits, plums and cedar wood. Sweet dark fruits are also present on the palate, accompanied by stewed, sweetened plums, figs, dates and spice.

When decanted, the flavours become bright and well-integrated, while the tannins are silky and smooth with a sweet and lengthy finish. With plenty of character and depth, the Chateau Musar 2002 is warming and delicious red wine that deserves to be really savoured.

“Fresh acidity, cake spices. Fig, damson and redcurrant stew. Enjoyable now but with much more to come. Impressive.” – Paul Howard, ‘Organic Wine Journal’.

A quick history of Chateau Musar 2002

The Chateau Musar 2002 has turned out to be a triumph, even against all odds. A long, rainy and cold winter lasted well into June in Lebanon, while July was mild and August was eventually hot.

This caused the grapes to ripen at a much lower rate, meaning that picking had to be selective as the maturity levels of the grapes varied so dramatically. However, as the fermentation process was slow, the wines have turned out to be much riper and fuller than anticipated, resulting in the 2002 being an interesting and utterly delicious vintage.

The Lebanese red wine is always made from a combination of different grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan. As the composition of Chateau Musar wines changes every year, each vintage develops a different character and identity. The 2002 vintage is one that has caught the attention of many red wine lovers, and is the Chateau Musar wine that we would recommend to anyone new to the brand or looking for a quality red.

Serving suggestions

We would suggest serving the Chateau Musar 2002 with roasts, casseroles, grills and mature cheeses. The fresh acidity of the flavoursome Lebanese red wine would complement these rich and intense dishes, with the fruit and spice present in the Chateau Musar helping to create a perfect food and wine combination.
