"Tryathon" - because we all need to indulge

"In the bleak mid-winter
Frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron,
Water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow,
Snow on Snow,
In the bleak mid-winter,
Long ago."

Christina Rossetti's poem, later a Christmas carol with a setting by composer Holst, is just as applicable now. The festive season might have blown through. Winter may (and probably hasn't) finished yet?

So why "Dryathon"? Surely, this is the month of all months to appreciate our home comforts? We've suffered the Christmas binge of wines, beers and spirits; the bland characterless (or down-right awful) served with good cheer - if not taste? We've been cut and paid way over the odds in bars for "necking wine". Is this the only way to endure the bars pleasure?

So, now is the time for treats. Not asportation. How about cosying up on a winters evening with a scrumptious, warming red? Amarone by the fire, anyone? Chilean Malbec to warm the cockles? Why wait until February, when you can buy something marvellous to sip, savour and enjoy now?

So January shall be re-named "Tryathon". Try something new. Upgrade just a bit and banish the winter blues; red is such a warmer colour. Come into the warmth and cherish the delights, that are in front of you.

And we shall raise our glass to absent friends...
...We miss you too!
