Mum's the Word

My mum loves her fizz! And I love nothing more than seeing her eyes light up when I give her a bottle of something special, after all I am one of the reasons she drinks, right?

So Mother’s Day is around the corner, and my mum has almost tasted every bottle of bubbly in the store, which leaves me wondering, what next? What can I give her that is going to re materialize that beam of satisfaction?

My mum is an inspiration to me, the strongest, funniest and most caring woman I know, and being the rebellious middle child, I know I have a lot of making up to do. She has also been my rock the last year so the bottle I give her this Mother’s Day has to be extra special.

Now my mum doesn't have much of a sweet tooth, so that rules out any demi sec champagne, but if yours does maybe try one of these beauties:

Cattier Glamour Demi Sec Rose £33.99

Champagne with a subtle sweetness combined with sumptuous flavours of ripe and candied fruit and red berries followed by a unmistakable smoothness and freshness.

Billecart Salmon Demi Sec Champagne £42.99

Full, rich and balanced on the palate, with flavours of stone fruit, honey and cream, with persistent bubbles….the biggest give away to a high quality fizz.

My mum has always preferred a rose champagne, but as it is a woman’s prerogative to change her mind, she has. But if your mum is still in the pink, these are my top picks:

Bollinger Rose Champagne Now £49.99

Soft red fruit flavours are found on the  palate, balanced by a good level of natural  acidity and long, creamy finish. Full bodied  and fresh, Bollinger Rose Champagne has the signature depth and intensity found in all Bollinger Champagnes.

Ruinart Brut Rose Champagne £55.99

Aromas of ripe red summer fruits entwine with yeasty notes of pastry and cream, giving way to a palate of good acidity, with prominent flavours of raspberry, strawberry and cherry, with a long finish.

My mum also has a big birthday coming up, so my inspiration sparks to vintage champagne! Where the grapes used are the very best from a single year. I have a budget of under £100, but it has to be the best I can get.

This offers me the Number 1 champagne of 2013! Yes! That means it beat Krug and Dom Perignon!

Charles Heidsieck Brut 2000 Only £69.99

Elegant gold colour, with persistent, fine bubbles. A complex concentration of minerals and grasses give way to Mediterranean fruits, apricot, dates and perfumed acacia honey. The elegant, generous palate has balanced acidity with crisp peach and sweet honey flavours. Infinite length and majestic structure.

If fizz is not your mums tipple, you can’t go too far wrong with chocolate and wine for a bumper mother’s day gift and at corks out we have a combo of the two!

Rubis Chocolate Wine!

Available in a gift set with glasses now only £17.99 saving you £5!

So here’s to you Mum! Cin Cin! And Happy Mothers Day!

Steph
