award-and-recommended-wines.jpgRuby coloured, with elegant aromas of raspberry and boysenberry, backed by subtle vanilla oak. Full and fruit driven on the palate, with blackcurrant and plum, supported by chocolate shavings and spice, with sweet tannins and good length. Serve with lamb, pasta or French cheeses.

Established in 1890 by Pascual Toso from Piemonte in Italy, this is one of the oldest and most prestigious wineries in Argentina, and since its foundation has been characterised by their ongoing innovation. In 2001, internationally renowned Californian oenologist Paul Hobbs was appointed to begin work on the development of premium and super-premium wines for Toso. Paul and his talented winemaking team continue to reap success, and have in a short period already produced some highly acclaimed wines which remain faithful to Toso's principles: Tradition, Authenticity, Innovation.

Toso own more than 400 hectares at 715 metres above sea level at Las Barrancas, in Maipú within the Mendoza river highland. The region is dry with warm summers, cold winters, and excellent sunlight levels which are perfect for the development of flavour, colour and tannins. All fruit is handpicked at optimum ripeness, with the grapes for the reserve wines coming from vines over 40-year-old, with only natural yeasts used.

Toso is recognised as one of the top wineries in the country, and was awarded IWSC Argentinean Wine Producer of the Year in 2007, as well as winning numerous international wine show medals every year. Star performer last year was the Pascual Toso Malbec 2008, which won four trophies, two awards and a gold medal at the IWC 2009, and silver medals in IWSC and Decanter.

Product Reviews

  1. Juicy cabernet sauvignon

Earth, balsamic, jammy red fruit, herbs and oak aromas. Good sophisticated structure and sweet fruit framed by dry tannins and balanced acidity.
