Gruner Veltliner Strasse Hasel 2010
Light straw-yellow with an array of spices on the nose and underlying yellow fruit aromas. Succulent and mouthfilling on the palate with appley notes, spice and delicate white pepper, with a long, lingering finish. A perfect match with seafood and summer salads.
Birgit Eichinger established Weingut Eichinger in 1992, having first experimented with a small vineyard plot on her parent's estate. The ideal site was identified at the foot of the Gaisberg, and here, they built a state-of-the-art winery. Since then, the vineyard holdings have been gradually expanding, and today the estate spans over 9 hectares in the finest sites of the Strass. The main grape variety planted is Gruner Veltliner, but additionally Riesling, Roter Veltliner and Chardonnay are also planted, with each variety matched to the perfect vineyard plot.
Hasel – a good site extending on rolling hills of medium height and sloping to the south. Its deep loess soils lend themselves perfectly to growing the classic Kamptal Grüner Veltliner variety. Its soil structure ideally ensures ample water supply to the vines, which produce Grüners rich in extracts. No maceration, gentle pressing; the must was preclarified by settling for 20 hours, followed by fermentation with cultured yeast and storage in steel tanks.
