This delicious intense Merlot has a dark, concentrated purple colour. The nose is intense with mature dark fruits, such as cherries and blackberries, surrounded by notes of plum and blueberry pie; there are also subtle touches of violets and cedar. On the palate, the berry flavours grow through plum to black cherry, with constant and vigourous floral notes. Light bodied, but intense in flavour in the middle, it has a long finish, full, very elegant and with silky tannins and an extended aftertaste. It will improve further in the bottle over two or three years. Excellent accompaniment for pasta with dark sauces, roast turkey, lasagne or gnocchi in bolognese sauce, tagliatele in tomato sauce, red meats and a wide variety of cheeses.

Founded in 1856, the Cousino Macul winery is still 100% family owned. Estate grown and estate bottled, they product limited amounts of fine quality wine. There wines are only made from grapes grown on their own two estates. The original Cousiño family's wine estate in Santiago's Macul district dates back to 1856 but lies on land planted to vines since the 1500's. All the vines were imported directly from Europe in 1863 and since then their genetic integrity has been closely guarded. Cousiño-Macul has never purchased nor sold plants from its nursery since this date.
In 1870, a then state-of-the-art winery was built which remains one of the family's proudest achievements, fondest assets and one of Chile's top tourist attractions with the glorious Cousiño Park surrounding it..

Following an intensive 2-year search for the perfect growing environment in Chile, the family purchased 300 hectares of land in Buin just 32km south west of Santiago and began a massive programme of investment resulting in Pascal Marty, the Head Viticulturist and Winemaker, having a full arsenal of ultra modern techniques at his fingertips for making the best possible wines from the region. The first vines were planted in August 1996 and the fruits of this expansion are becoming increasingly apparent.states, located in the Maipo valley at the foot of the Andes Mountains and because of the altitude is part of the sub-region known as ‘Alto Maipo’
