Full bodied, elegant and rich on the palate, with vibrant fresh fruit and toasty oak character, with good structure and chunky tannins. Serve with stews, casseroles and full flavoured meats.
Berthet Rayne is at Cairanne, one of the villages on the edge of the extensive sun baked Plan de Dieu plateau to the north east of Orange that are permitted their individual village appellation. It is a 25 hectare property with about half the production coming from some very old vines, and makes what we feel are excellent warming full bodied wines with the real character of the region. The red varieties are typical for the region - syrah, grenache and mourvedre. Berthet Rayne also produce a small quantity of a stunning pair of wines made with ultra small yields from their oldest vines.
