Boekenhoutskloof Wolftrap Red 2011

Intense purple colour, with notes of dark and red berry fruit on the nose, following through on the palate with blackberry, blueberry, peach and stone fruit, with smooth supple tannins and good acidity. Pair with casseroles, game and roasted vegetables.

The Boekenhoutskloof farm was founded in 1776 by Hugenot settlers in the Franschhoek Valley, bringing with them Mediterranean grape varieties and the knowledge of how to make fine wines. Located a scenic 40 min drive from Cape Town, the winery is the far flung reaches of the Cape wine district, but yet is still recognised as one of the finest estates in the area.

In 1993, the farm was purchased and restored by a partnership of enthusiasts committed to the future of South African wine, implementing a new vineyard planting scheme, and laying down vines of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Cabernet Franc, Semillon and Viognier. Since that time, the winery has gone from strength to strenght, and now enjoys a reputation as one of the leading estates in South Africa.

Product Reviews

  1. A great mid-week glugger

Posted by Graham (Heswall branch manager) on 27th Oct 2010

Made by the guys who brought us The Chocolate Block, this Syrah, Mourvedre and Viognier blend is smoky, meaty, savoury and very, very gluggable. At £7.99 it's a snip too.
