The history of Ron Barceló started in 1930 with a young man’s dream of starting his own Licorera; born in Mallorca, Spain, Julian Barceló arrived that year to the Dominican Republic. It did not take long the Barceló brand to become an essential reference among local rum brands growing into one of the biggest and most prestigious Dominican companies. During the 80’s Ron Barceló became the number one preferred national rum and the company realised that it was destined to expand beyond the Caribbean and America and started a very successful internationalisation process in 1992 with very satisfactory results. By 1994 it was exported to over 10 countries with Spain being the main market. In 2000 BAINSA (Barceló Commercial Internacional) sprung fourth as a strategic alliance that allowed Spanish entrepreneurs and Barceló Co to bring the quality of Ron Barceló to every country in the world.

It released heavy hints of toffee on the nose, with some intermittent hits of spice to compliment whilst on the palate, it was rather smooth with a slight sweetness of vanilla and caramel. The flavours of dry fruits is also detected, although the caramel and vanilla are the dominant forces. It finishes well with a lingering after-taste of caramel.

I am a die hard rum fan and i was really keen to see this rum in the UK. I have seen it in spain before and they absolutely love it over there. I personally drink it with some ice and just one or two lime squeezes but they drink it with lemonade or coke. Either works well for me. Its got a really smooth flavour, lots of vanilla and caramel, reminds me a lot of butterscotch.
