The Heathcote Wine Region adjoins the Bendigo Region and enjoys a similar, but slightly cooler climate. A unique feature of the region which many commentators mention is the soils which have developed on ancient Cambrian rocks. In fact Heathcote sits on a geological fault line and there are many different soil types originating from an complex local geology. The undulating topography has generated a variety of microclimates suitable for viticulture.

The fruit for this wine was sourced from the Merindoc Vineyard at Tooborac, in the south of the Heathcote region. The Merindoc Vineyard is planted on gravelly, low fertility ironstone soils. The 2006 vintage in Heathcote was one of the warmest on record, dry and low yielding resulting in small harvests of intensely flavoured grapes.

This most enigmatic of grapes often gets swamped with too much oak but this example positively sings with heady aromatic apricot, fig and quince aromas as a result of never seeing an oak barrel! Richly textured, with an almost silky mouthfeel, this wine is restrained yet luscious and exotic - one of the finest examples of the variety in Australia.  Another very good food wine.

A delight with meaty fish topped with a creamy dressing.
