key information

The Margan first planted grapevines in the Hunter Valley in the 1960’s when Frank Margan established the DeBeyers vineyard in Pokolbin. From his earliest days, Frank's son Andrew wanted to grow grapes and be a winemaker. Twenty vintages working under the late, great Murray Tyrrell and six vintages in France provided him with plenty of experience to allow him to leave Tyrrells and with his wife Lisa, start their own brand. Construction of the winery here in the sub-region of Broke Fordwich was completed in time for the 1997 vintage, from which only 3,000 cases were produced.

Since 1997, the vineyard area has increased to over 320 acres of vines. The majority of these vineyards were planted by Lindemans and Saxonvale in the late 60’s on the volcanic deposit known as the “Fordwich Sill”, in Broke Fordwich. It is these unique old vines growing on this rare soil that provide Margan with its own distinctive style. All Margan wines are single vineyard, estate grown wines.

Light golden green in colour, with quince and pineapple characters on the nose, and citrus overtones. The palate is rich and luscious without being cloying with delicious nuts and dried fruit flavours coupled with distinctive Hunter Valley citrus. Pair with desserts, cheese or pate.
