La Tourangelle's time-honored traditional methods are used to produce these fine gourmet products. The artisan production process they follow today originated in the idyllic French town of Saumur over a century ago. Starting with only the finest hand-selected ingredients, it is this artisan process that yields the elegant natural flavours found in their products.
La Tourangelle handcrafts this Roasted Almond Oil in Saumur, France strictly following 150-year-old traditional methods. Slowly roasted to perfection, expeller-pressed and lightly filtered, this oil adds a rich almond taste to salad dressing, pasta, grilled meat or fish, baked pastries, and is perfect to dip with bread.
Roasted almond oil is an outstanding product in the kitchen. With its fresh roasted almond flavor, the oil reveals subtle nuances when combined with other ingredients. Its delicate character makes it a good substitute for olive oil in cases where walnut oil and hazelnut oil are just too powerful. When combined with any salad, fish or vegetable dish, almond oil helps to fashion a gourmet meal. Almond oil is very popular in India with duck and curry, and in China it is also used with chicken and duck. Give almond oil a try - you are sure to love it!
Suitable for medium-high heat: Perfect for sautéing, baking, dipping, blending into a dressing/sauce, or drizzling on a finished dish.
Almonds are clearly good for you. Almond oil or almond milk is used in almost all cosmetic products. Rich in vitamins E, B and P, almond oil contains high levels of monounsaturated fatty acid (like olive oil), but it usually also has a decent amount of linoleic fatty acid. This balance makes for a very healthy oil that will help to protect your heart and fight against bad cholesterol.
La Tourangelle is one of the last oil mills in France still producing almond oil using traditional artisan methods. After harvesting, the nuts are washed, sorted, sun-dried for several days and stored for further drying. The almonds are then ground and roasted in cast-iron kettles. The resulting warm paste is pressed in a hydraulic press. Following mechanical extraction, the oil is lightly filtered and bottled.
