The 2003 harvest was a very surprising one – the wines from this year are rich in alcohol and acidity. The harvest started on the 4th September, the grapes were healthy with good maturity and ripeness. All the different varietals from this year have different aromas – all of which are very fragrant. The Hochar Père et Fils White is made from Merwah – one of two indigenous white varieties from Lebanon - and it resembles the Semillon grape.
In October 2003, after the wines had been racked, they were already reflecting a great year: rich in tannins, acidity and colour. The Hochar Père et Fils White 2003 is no exception – it has a bright lemon colour and has refreshing acidity. On the nose there are ripe peaches, apples, quince, and pears, with a hint of citrus.
These flavours and aromas follow through to the palate – peachy, ripe apples and citrus fruits dominate. There is good acidity which makes this an excellent wine to accompany seafood. We recommend serving it slightly chilled with fruits de mer. It is also excellent with Lebanese mezze, couscous and Mediterranean grilled vegetables.
