key information

Located in Northern Spain, 1 hour's drive south from Bilbao, the Rioja region is famed for its production of fine wines. Rioja is a beautiful scenic region, offering varied and often rugged landscape. Rolling hills and gentle plains are crossed by the River Ebro under the watchful gaze of the Sierra Cantabria Mountains.

The climate in the region of Rioja is excellent for grape-growing. Hot summers and cold winters with relatively high rainfall are all perfect for producing top quality grapes which go into producing quality Rioja wines. Harvesters appear in the vineyards late September each year and begin picking the soft plump grapes which continue to ripen throughout long, golden autumns. It is then up to the skill and devotion of all those involved in the winemaking process to create and nurture the young wines to maturity.

The grapes for this wine are hand harvested in vineyards near Alfaro in the Rioja Baja, the eastern part of Rioja that crosses into the adjacent region of Navarra. This is the lowest region in Rioja: varying from about 380m in the west to 301m in the town of Alfaro to the east. The climate of Rioja Baja is hotter and drier and the soils more sandy and alluvial.

Brick red colour, with forest floor aromas, cinamon stick and spice. Full and vibrant on the palate, with prominent tannins and flavours of mature red fruit, vanilla, chocolate and coffee. Serve with cured meats, hard cheeses and game.
