In 1998, the established Penedes winemaking family of Rovira Carbonell acquired the "Masia Barril", the first bodega to bottle wine under the rules of the Priorat DOC. Restoring the name of "Mas d'en Gil" to the site, which had been used when the bodega was in the hands of famous Catalan painter Santiago Rusiñol, they aimed to preserve the balanced and harmonious wine styles that have always eminated from this region.
The Mas d'en Gil plot is situated 350 metres above sea level, between the enclaves of Montsant and Serra de Llaberia, and benefit from warm south easterly breezes, and a soil structure which makes for incredibly rich and complex wines
On the nose, the wine shows ripe red fruit and floral aromas with hints of spices (vanilla). On the pale, the tannins are smooth with similar fruit characters as on the nose. The oak influence is perfectly balanced with the fruit. The finish is smooth
