key information

The Boekenhoutskloof farm was founded in 1776 by Hugenot settlers in the Franschhoek Valley, bringing with them Mediterranean grape varieties and the knowledge of how to make fine wines. Located a scenic 40 min drive from Cape Town, the winery is the far flung reaches of the Cape wine district, but yet is still recognised as one of the finest estates in the area.

In 1993, the farm was purchased and restored by a partnership of enthusiasts committed to the future of South African wine, implementing a new vineyard planting scheme, and laying down vines of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Cabernet Franc, Semillon and Viognier. Since that time, the winery has gone from strength to strenght, and now enjoys a reputation as one of the leading estates in South Africa.

Deep purple aspect, with aromas of cracked black pepper, violet and garden spice. Finely structured and a little tight on the palate, with the beginnings of some dark fruit character, supported by prominent tannins and acidity. Pair with game, casseroles, red meats and cheeses.
