Welcome to Corks Out Chester - February Newsletter.

Jem’s Watch

Hello brothers and sisters of Bacchus and welcome to the first monthly newsletter from Corks Out Chester. Each month we’ll keep you abreast of all that’s going on in the world of Corks Out with news of tastings, promotions or new wines that deserve your attention! But first, we’ve had a change of cast here at the Chester store, and I should probably introduce him.

So as we welcomed in the New Year, we also welcomed into the fold a new manager – one Jeremy Cowan. So it’s an extremely fond farewell to my friend and master of all drinks shaken and stirred – Kirk Lonsdale, and hello to the force of nature known as Jem.

With over a decade in the trade, Jem is scarily knowledgeable yet with a no-nonsense approach reminiscent of our resident wine guru Mervyn Howard. Having worked for Oddbins, the renowned Galvin Brother’s and throughout Australia, Jem has seen the industry from many angles and is therefore full of fine ideas as to what makes the ideal wine merchants. The first change you guys will notice will be an increase in the amount of in-store tastings on offer, with at least two a month from March onwards.

Yup, it’s that time once more, where Cupid pulls back his bow and aims it squarely at February 14th.

No other drink sparks an amorous mood like Champagne and along with a few slightly less expensive alternatives, we’re confident that the wines we have in store will allow some inspiration for those of you seeking something slightly different to bubble to the surface.

Here are a few suggestions to compliment a night in with that certain someone, or click here to see our full range of gift ideas :

Mionetto, Il Rose Prosecco, ½ Bottle - £5.95

Perfect if you desire but a glass each at the start of the evening. Delicate and fragrant with vivid cherry flavours, it’s sure to add a bit of sparkle to proceedings.

Saint Amour, Clos des Billards, Beaujolais, France – £10.95

It’s in the name! Beaujolais is the king of food wines. Soft tannins, heady aromas and intensely fruity flavours make it a great match with Beef, Lamb, Pork of even Chicken.

Laurent Perrier Rose - £51.00

It is to Valentines Day what Guinness is to St. Patricks night - essential!
Revered by wine-lovers for its depth of flavour and by aesthetes for the beauty of its 17th century-style bottle, crisp aromas of strawberries, raspberries and black cherries marry with fine bubbles and prominent flavours of soft red berry fruit, with a well defined wild cherry aspect. The drink of romance!

Cheshire Chocolates –

Exquisitely handmade, using the finest Belgium chocolate then locally sourced ingredients for the ganache fillings, fresh fruit purees and oils.

Box of mixed truffles - £6.50

155g box of deluxe range truffles and chocolates - £9.50

225g box of deluxe range truffles and chocolates - £13.99

Remember, the world will always welcome lovers and lovers will always welcome a fine drop of wine!
Till next month, adieu
