Often described as the Rolls-Royce of Champagne, Krug has a reputation for producing wines of undisputed quality and distinction.
The careful selection of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes as well as the traditional oak barrel fermentation process gives Krug Champagne its powerful intensity and delicate, elegant finesse. Meanwhile, the extended maturity period allows each perfectly balanced bottle to develop the complexity and richness that is signature to Krug.
The Krug Grand Cuvee
The House of Krug regard the Grand Cuvee as their top Champagne, which contains a diverse blend of around 120 to 140 wines from different villages, years and grape varieties.
The vast reserve means that only the very best produce is selected so that you receive the highest standard of Krug Champagne. Meanwhile, the complex blend enables the Champagne house to maintain its distinctive style:
- Light, glittering appearance - the pale golden to bronze hue is accompanied by a steady stream of tiny bubbles running through the glass.
- Clean, complex aroma - citrus and sweet candied fruits are combined with yeast, oak and toasted brioche.
- Dry, weighty flavour - similar to the nose, fresh citrus and stone fruits are present along with warmer oak, brioche flavours. Meanwhile, nutty nuances and toasted gingerbread are accompanied by a long finish.
The Grand Cuvee has a richness that is not often found in Champagnes, as it is traditionally fermented in oak barrels and aged for a long period of time. Its weightiness means that it is excellent paired with heavier dishes including meats and spices, while it also goes perfectly with pasta, scallops and fish.
