"I have not missed any of your Summer and Christmas wine tasting events since you started and before last night's event I was wondering whether you could maintain the high standard you have set over the last few years."
Paul Bowyer
SuperTuscan wines are an unoficial category of Tuscan wines, not recognised within the Italian wine classification system. This came about due to the restrictive DOC practices in the Chianti zone prior to the 1990's, which a number of winemakers felt were preventing them producing wines that would be high quality and be popular with customers. These winemakers found the regulations too restrictive, so decided to produce a "Chianti-style" wine that ignored the DOC regulations, and thus the Super Tuscan was born. These wines typically rely on a "bordeaux style blend" of grapes to produce high quality popular wines that quickly gained a cult reputation.
