The origins of Taittinger Champagne date back to an original house founded in 1734 by Jacques Fourneaux. It was in 1931, that Pierre Taittinger purchased the Champagne House and founded today's family led company.
As a young cavalry officer, Pierre spent much of the 1st World War in the Champagne region where he was stationed at Château de la Marquetterie in Pierry, near Epernay. He fell in love with the property along with its fine vineyards, and after the war in 1932, purchased it a year after he had bought the Fourneaux Company. Today, the vineyard produces top quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir fruit, and remains owned and managed by the Taittinger family, led by Pierre Emmanuel.
The headquarters of this famous champagne house are in Reims, situated above magnificent 4th Century Roman cellars which at one time belonged to the Benedictine monks of the abbey of St Nicaise. Its miles of tunnels and cellars are perfect for the slow ageing process involved in making this great Champagne
Taittinger Champagnes are characterised by a high percentage of Chardonnay, giving these wines a distinctive elegance, delicacy and finesse. This can be anything from 40% in the Brut Reserve NV to 100% in the prestigious Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs.
