This excellent negociant business specialises in bringing impeccable, nuanced white burgndy wine to marked. Their emphasis is on identifying excellent wines from the less fashionable villages of the Cote d'Or and the Cote Chalonnaise. This reults in a selection of wines that may appear expensive for their appelation, but are in fact bargains for their quality.
History
Alix and Etienne de Montille grew up in Volnay at the historic family estate headed by their father Hubert and today run the estate together. Etienne looks after the red wines while Alix manages the whites. In 2003, they decided extend the business by adding more whites to the portfolio through the creation of a boutique négociant business, Maison Deux Montille Soeur Frère.
Winemaking
The couple believe that great Burgundy must reflect Burgundy's traditions but must also be in tune with the needs of today’s consumer. They are committed to buying only grapes sourced from growers with whom they have long-term relationships in order ensure the quality of the grapes. They manage the picking themselves to control the timing and quality of the harvest. During vinification, they tacle each vintage as a unique project, adapting the approach to the needs of that vintage rather than consistently applying any strict rules or methodology. Their aim is to produce wines of great aromatic purity and finesse with length and intensity on the palate.
The wines
The range consists of a mix of some of the greatest names of the Côte de Beaune such as Corton Charlemagne and Meursault Poruzots, and fantastic value wines of villages such as Auxey Duresses, St Romain and St Aubin.
